AI Visionary Eliezer Yudkowsky on the Singularity, Bayesian Brains and Closet Goblins

I’m perpetually astonished by smart people who believe things I find preposterous. For example, geneticist and National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins, who believes Jesus rose from the dead. Or artificial-intelligence theorist Eliezer Yudkowsky, who believes machines… Well, I should let Yudkowsky say what he believes. I interviewed him on Bloggingheads.tv in 2008, and it didn’t go well, because I assumed he was a disciple of Singularity guru Ray Kurzweil. Yudkowsky, who never attended college, is no one’s follower.
